The tour was part of Open House <\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">New York<\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">, a yearly event, in which architectural landmarks, not usually accessible, are open to the public.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/newtown_creek.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-family: arial;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/newtowncreek.jpg\" \/><\/a> <span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><br \/>Newtown Creek &#8212; \u00a9 Brian Rose<\/p>\n<p><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/greenpoint_green.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-family: arial;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/newtowncreek006.jpg\" \/><\/a><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">Adjacent to Newtown Creek wastewater treatment plant &#8212; \u00a9 Brian Rose<\/span>  <span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><\/p>\n<p>The eggs dominate a post-apocalyptic industrial landscape, the site of the largest oil spill in US history&#8211;still lurking beneath the surface&#8211;where ancient crumbling infrastructure meets futuristic high technology.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/newtown_creek_pipes.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-family: arial;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/newtowncreek_pipes.jpg\" \/><\/a> <span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><br \/>Newtown Creek sewage plant &#8212; \u00a9 Brian Rose<\/p>\n<p><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/newtown_creek_walls.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-family: arial;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/newtowncreek003.jpg\" \/><\/a><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">Nature walk &#8212; \u00a9 Brian Rose<\/p>\n<p><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/nature_walk.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-family: arial;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/newtowncreek004.jpg\" \/><\/a> <span style=\"font-family:arial;\"><br \/>Nature walk &#8212; \u00a9 Brian Rose<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">On Saturday I walked around with my digital camera after going up on the catwalk above the eggs. There&#8217;s a &#8220;nature walk&#8221; that takes one along Newtown Creek, a walled in pathway leads through and around the treatment plant. It&#8217;s both wonderful and alien. The light from a leaden sky pressed down.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/greenpointsunflowers.htm\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-family: arial;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/greenpointsunflowers.jpg\" \/><\/a><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">N. Henry Street &#8212; \u00a9 Brian Rose<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">On Sunday I returned with my view camera&#8211;brilliant sunshine this time&#8211;and walked over the bridge that crosses Newtown Creek, and went up to an immense cemetery that overlooks the area. As to be expected I was chased out as soon as I set up my tripod. Photography not allowed. Fortunately, however, I was not picked up as a suspected terrorist while framing the eggs through the oil tanks next to the creek or the fluttering sunflowers on N.
