It&#8217;s amazing that such a landscape exists so close to one of world&#8217;s largest cities. Stay at the Mohonk Mountain House if you&#8217;ve got a few bucks to spare. It&#8217;s expensive, but refreshingly unhip, even a bit frayed at the edges. The hotel architecture is fairytale eclectic&#8211;turreted castle here, Swiss chalet there.
