This image and the following text is also on my homepage in the <\/span><span style=\"font-style: italic;font-family:arial;\" >Outtakes<\/span><span style=\"font-family:arial;\"> section.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/essex.htm\"target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"font-family: arial;\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brianrose.com\/journal\/essex.jpg\" \/><\/a><br \/><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">Essex and Delancey Streets                 (4&#215;5 negative)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">Rising out of the tumult of the Lower East Side amid the discount stores of Delancey Street is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bluecondonyc.com\/\"target=\"_blank\">Blue<\/a>, a condominum designed by architect <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tschumi.com\/\"target=\"_blank\">Bernard Tschumi<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">For the moment, sneaker shops and fast food hold sway\u2013but for how long? The icy blue-on- blue, glass-against-sky, tower looms above the riff-raff and roaring traffic of the Williamsburg Bridge.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family:arial;\">As I continue to photograph the Lower East Side, I return to such architectural icons, unthinkable just a few years ago, as touchstones of New York&#8217;s present gilded age.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A couple of months ago I posted a digital image of Essex and Delancey Streets on the Lower East Side of Manhattan.
