I photographed the Silodam for Architectural Record while living in the building in Amsterdam. I posted notices in the hallways and a number of residents gave me access to their apartments.

While giving the impression of stacked containers, the building's colors define different apartment types--the hallways also color coded. The building was built on columns in the water, and cruise ships pass regularly on their way to Amsterdam's passenger terminal.

MVRDV is one of the most innovative of the Dutch firms influencing design around the world.
